  151. .Sh CONFIGURATION
  152. .Nm
  153. uses \fIxdg-open\fR (on Linux) and \fIopen(1)\fR (on OS X) as the desktop
  154. opener. It invokes
  155. .Pa nlay
  156. to run desktop search utility or screensaver. Read more on
  157. .Pa nlay
  158. at:
  159. .br
  160. .Em https://github.com/jarun/nnn/wiki/all-about-nlay
  161. .Pp
  162. There is no configuration file. Settings work on environment variables. Please
  163. refer to the ENVIRONMENT section below.
  164. .Pp
  165. Configuring
  166. .Nm
  167. to change to the last visited directory on quit requires shell integration in a
  168. few easy steps. Please visit the project page (linked below) for the
  169. instructions.
  170. .Sh FILTERS
  171. Filters support regexes to instantly (search-as-you-type) list the matching
  172. entries in the current directory.
  173. .Pp
  174. There are 3 ways to reset a filter: (1) pressing \fI^L\fR, (2) a search with no matches or
  175. (3) an extra backspace at the filter prompt (like vi).
  176. .Pp
  177. Common use cases: (1) To list all matches starting with the filter expression,
  178. start the expression with a '^' (caret) symbol. (2) Type '\\.mkv' to list all MKV files.
  179. .Pp
  180. If
  181. .Nm
  182. is invoked as root the default filter will also match hidden files.
  183. .Pp
  184. In the \fInavigate-as-you-type\fR mode directories are opened in filter mode,
  185. allowing continuous navigation. Works best with the \fBarrow keys\fR.
  186. .Sh ENVIRONMENT
  187. The SHELL, EDITOR and PAGER environment variables take precedence
  188. when dealing with the !, e and p commands respectively.
  189. .Pp
  190. \fBNNN_BMS:\fR bookmark string as \fIkey:location\fR pairs (max 10) separated by
  191. \fI;\fR:
  192. .Bd -literal
  193. export NNN_BMS='doc:~/Documents;u:/home/user/Cam Uploads;D:~/Downloads/'
  194. .Ed
  195. .Pp
  196. \fBNNN_USE_EDITOR:\fR use EDITOR (preferably CLI, fallback vi) to handle text
  197. files.
  198. .Bd -literal
  199. export NNN_USE_EDITOR=1
  200. .Ed
  201. .Pp
  202. \fBNNN_DE_FILE_MANAGER:\fR set to a desktop file manager to open the current
  203. directory with. E.g.:
  204. .Bd -literal
  205. export NNN_DE_FILE_MANAGER=thunar
  206. .Ed
  207. .Pp
  208. \fBNNN_IDLE_TIMEOUT:\fR set idle timeout (in seconds) to invoke terminal
  209. screensaver.
  210. .Pp
  211. \fBNNN_COPIER:\fR set to a clipboard copier script. For example, on Linux:
  212. .Bd -literal
  213. -------------------------------------
  214. #!/bin/sh
  215. echo -n $1 | xsel --clipboard --input
  216. -------------------------------------
  217. .Ed
  218. .Pp
  219. \fBNNN_NOWAIT:\fR necessary only if nnn blocks while a file is open.
  220. .Bd -literal
  221. export NNN_NOWAIT=1
  222. .Ed
  223. .Sh KNOWN ISSUES
  224. If you are using urxvt you might have to set backspacekey to DEC.
