  157. .Sh CONFIGURATION
  158. .Nm
  159. uses \fIxdg-open\fR (on Linux) and \fIopen(1)\fR (on OS X) as the desktop
  160. opener. It invokes
  161. .Pa nlay
  162. to run desktop search utility or screensaver. Read more on
  163. .Pa nlay
  164. at:
  165. .br
  166. .Em https://github.com/jarun/nnn/wiki/all-about-nlay
  167. .Pp
  168. There is no configuration file. Settings work on environment variables. Please
  169. refer to the ENVIRONMENT section below.
  170. .Pp
  171. Configuring
  172. .Nm
  173. to change to the last visited directory on quit requires shell integration in a
  174. few easy steps. Please visit the project page (linked below) for the
  175. instructions.
  176. .Sh FILTERS
  177. Filters support regexes to instantly (search-as-you-type) list the matching
  178. entries in the current directory.
  179. .Pp
  180. There are 3 ways to reset a filter:
  181. .Pp
  182. (1) pressing \fI^L\fR (at the new/rename prompt \fI^L\fR followed by \fIEnter\fR
  183. discards all changes and exits prompt),
  184. .br
  185. (2) a search with no matches or
  186. .br
  187. (3) an extra backspace at the filter prompt (like vi).
  188. .Pp
  189. Common use cases:
  190. .Pp
  191. (1) To list all matches starting with the filter expression, start the expression
  192. with a '^' (caret) symbol.
  193. .br
  194. (2) Type '\\.mkv' to list all MKV files.
  195. .Pp
  196. If
  197. .Nm
  198. is invoked as root the default filter will also match hidden files.
  199. .Pp
  200. In the \fInavigate-as-you-type\fR mode directories are opened in filter mode,
  201. allowing continuous navigation. Works best with the \fBarrow keys\fR.
  202. .Sh MULTI-COPY MODE
  203. The absolute path of a single file can be copied to clipboard by pressing \fI^K\fR if
  204. NNN_COPIER is set (see ENVIRONMENT section below).
  205. .Pp
  206. To copy multiple file paths the multi-copy mode should be enabled using \fI^Y\fR.
  207. In this mode it's possible to
  208. .Pp
  209. (1) select multiple files one by one by pressing \fI^K\fR on each entry; or,
  210. .br
  211. (2) navigate to another file in the same directory to select a range of files.
  212. .Pp
  213. Pressing \fI^Y\fR again copies the paths to clipboard and exits the multi-copy mode.
  214. .Sh ENVIRONMENT
  215. The SHELL, EDITOR and PAGER environment variables take precedence
  216. when dealing with the !, e and p commands respectively.
  217. .Pp
  218. \fBNNN_BMS:\fR bookmark string as \fIkey:location\fR pairs (max 10) separated by
  219. \fI;\fR:
  220. .Bd -literal
  221. export NNN_BMS='doc:~/Documents;u:/home/user/Cam Uploads;D:~/Downloads/'
  222. .Ed
  223. The bookmark prompt also understands the \fI~\fR (HOME), \fI-\fR (last visited directory) and \fI&\fR shortcuts.
  224. .Pp
  225. \fBNNN_USE_EDITOR:\fR use EDITOR (preferably CLI, fallback vi) to handle text
  226. files.
  227. .Bd -literal
  228. export NNN_USE_EDITOR=1
  229. .Ed
  230. .Pp
  231. \fBNNN_DE_FILE_MANAGER:\fR set to a desktop file manager to open the current
  232. directory with. E.g.:
  233. .Bd -literal
  234. export NNN_DE_FILE_MANAGER=thunar
  235. .Ed
  236. .Pp
  237. \fBNNN_IDLE_TIMEOUT:\fR set idle timeout (in seconds) to invoke terminal
  238. screensaver.
  239. .Pp
  240. \fBNNN_COPIER:\fR set to a clipboard copier script. For example, on Linux:
  241. .Bd -literal
  242. -------------------------------------
  243. #!/bin/sh
  244. # comment the next line to convert newlines to spaces
  245. IFS=
  246. echo -n $1 | xsel --clipboard --input
  247. -------------------------------------
  248. .Ed
  249. .Pp
  250. \fBNNN_NO_X:\fR X display is unavailable. Copy file path(s) to \fI/tmp/nnncp$USER\fR.
  251. .Bd -literal
  252. export NNN_NO_X=1
  253. .Ed
  254. .Pp
  255. \fBNNN_QUOTE_ON:\fR wrap copied paths within single quotes. Useful for pasting
  256. names in the shell.
  257. .Sh KNOWN ISSUES
  258. If you are using urxvt you might have to set backspacekey to DEC.
