  120. .Nm
  121. invokes
  122. .Pa nlay
  123. to play files recognized by extension. It is a highly customizable bash shell
  124. script which invokes a player depending on the
  125. type of file. Read more on
  126. .Pa nlay
  127. at:
  128. .br
  129. .Em https://github.com/jarun/nnn/wiki/all-about-nlay
  130. .Pp
  131. .Nm
  132. is configured by modifying
  133. .Pa config.def.h
  134. and recompiling the code. config.h is generated as a backup of config.def.h.
  135. .Pp
  136. See the environment and examples sections below for more options and information.
  137. .Pp
  138. Configuring
  139. .Nm
  140. to change to the last visited directory on quit requires shell integration in a
  141. few easy steps. Please visit the project page (linked below) for the
  142. instructions.
  143. .Sh FILTERS
  144. Filters support regexes to display only the matched
  145. entries in the current directory view. This effectively allows
  146. searching through the directory tree for a particular entry. Matching entries
  147. are shown instantly (search-as-you-type).
  148. .Pp
  149. Filters do not stack on top of each other. They are applied anew
  150. every time. There are 4 ways to reset a filter: \fI^L\fR, an empty filter
  151. expression, a search with no results or an extra backspace at the filter prompt
  152. (like vi).
  153. .Pp
  154. If you want to list all matches starting with the filter expression (a common
  155. use case), start the expression with a
  156. .Pa ^
  157. (caret) symbol.
  158. .Pp
  159. If
  160. .Nm
  161. is invoked as root the default filter will also match hidden files.
  162. .Pp
  163. In the \fInavigate-as-you-type mode\fR directories are opened in filter mode,
  164. allowing continuous navigation. Works best with the \fBarrow keys\fR.
  165. .Sh ENVIRONMENT
  166. The SHELL, EDITOR and PAGER environment variables take precedence
  167. when dealing with the !, e and p commands respectively.
  168. .Pp
  169. \fBNNN_DE_FILE_MANAGER:\fR set to a desktop file manager to open the current
  170. directory with.
  171. .Pp
  172. \fBNNN_OPENER:\fR set to your desktop environment's default
  173. mime opener to override all custom mime associations.
  174. .br
  175. Examples: xdg-open, gio open, gvfs-open.
  176. .Pp
  177. \fBNNN_FALLBACK_OPENER:\fR set to your desktop environment's default
  178. mime opener to use as a fallback when no association is set for a file
  179. type. Custom associations are listed in the EXAMPLES section below.
  180. .Pp
  181. \fBNNN_IDLE_TIMEOUT:\fR set idle timeout (in seconds) to invoke terminal
  182. screensaver.
  183. .Pp
  184. \fBNNN_COPIER:\fR set to a clipboard copier script. For example, on Linux:
  185. .Bd -literal
  186. -------------------------------------
  187. #!/bin/sh
  188. echo -n $1 | xsel --clipboard --input
  189. -------------------------------------
