  162. .Sh CONFIGURATION
  163. .Nm
  164. uses \fIxdg-open\fR (on Linux) and \fIopen(1)\fR (on OS X) as the desktop
  165. opener. It invokes
  166. .Pa nlay
  167. to run desktop search utility or screensaver. Read more on
  168. .Pa nlay
  169. at:
  170. .br
  171. .Em https://github.com/jarun/nnn/wiki/all-about-nlay
  172. .Pp
  173. There is no configuration file. Settings work on environment variables. Please
  174. refer to the ENVIRONMENT section below.
  175. .Pp
  176. Configuring
  177. .Nm
  178. to change to the last visited directory on quit requires shell integration in a
  179. few easy steps. Please visit the project page (linked below) for the
  180. instructions.
  181. .Sh FILTERS
  182. Filters support regexes to instantly (search-as-you-type) list the matching
  183. entries in the current directory.
  184. .Pp
  185. There are 3 ways to reset a filter:
  186. .Pp
  187. (1) pressing \fI^L\fR (at the new/rename prompt \fI^L\fR followed by \fIEnter\fR
  188. discards all changes and exits prompt),
  189. .br
  190. (2) a search with no matches or
  191. .br
  192. (3) an extra backspace at the filter prompt (like vi).
  193. .Pp
  194. Common use cases:
  195. .Pp
  196. (1) To list all matches starting with the filter expression, start the expression
  197. with a '^' (caret) symbol.
  198. .br
  199. (2) Type '\\.mkv' to list all MKV files.
  200. .br
  201. (3) Use '.*' to match any character (\fIsort of\fR fuzzy search).
  202. .Pp
  203. If
  204. .Nm
  205. is invoked as root or the environment variable \fBNNN_SHOW_HIDDEN\fR is set the default filter will also match hidden files.
  206. .Pp
  207. In the \fInavigate-as-you-type\fR mode directories are opened in filter mode,
  208. allowing continuous navigation. Works best with the \fBarrow keys\fR.
  209. .Sh MULTI-COPY MODE
  210. The absolute path of a single file can be copied to clipboard by pressing \fI^K\fR if
  211. NNN_COPIER is set (see ENVIRONMENT section below).
  212. .Pp
  213. To copy multiple file paths the multi-copy mode should be enabled using \fI^Y\fR.
  214. In this mode it's possible to
  215. .Pp
  216. (1) select multiple files one by one by pressing \fI^K\fR on each entry; or,
  217. .br
  218. (2) navigate to another file in the same directory to select a range of files.
  219. .Pp
  220. Pressing \fI^Y\fR again copies the paths to clipboard and exits the multi-copy mode.
  221. .Sh ENVIRONMENT
  222. The SHELL, EDITOR (VISUAL, if defined) and PAGER environment variables take precedence
  223. when dealing with the !, e and p commands respectively.
  224. .Pp
  225. \fBNNN_BMS:\fR bookmark string as \fIkey:location\fR pairs (max 10) separated by
  226. \fI;\fR:
  227. .Bd -literal
  228. export NNN_BMS='doc:~/Documents;u:/home/user/Cam Uploads;D:~/Downloads/'
  229. .Ed
  230. The bookmark prompt also understands the \fI~\fR (HOME), \fI-\fR (last visited directory) and \fI&\fR shortcuts.
  231. .Pp
  232. \fBNNN_USE_EDITOR:\fR use EDITOR (preferably CLI, fallback vi) to handle text
  233. files.
  234. .Bd -literal
  235. export NNN_USE_EDITOR=1
  236. .Ed
  237. .Pp
  238. \fBNNN_DE_FILE_MANAGER:\fR set to a desktop file manager to open the current
  239. directory with. E.g.:
  240. .Bd -literal
  241. export NNN_DE_FILE_MANAGER=thunar
  242. .Ed
  243. .Pp
  244. \fBNNN_IDLE_TIMEOUT:\fR set idle timeout (in seconds) to invoke terminal
  245. screensaver.
  246. .Pp
  247. \fBNNN_COPIER:\fR set to a clipboard copier script. For example, on Linux:
  248. .Bd -literal
  249. -------------------------------------
  250. #!/bin/sh
  251. # comment the next line to convert newlines to spaces
  252. IFS=
  253. echo -n $1 | xsel --clipboard --input
  254. -------------------------------------
  255. .Ed
  256. .Pp
  257. \fBNNN_NO_X:\fR X display is unavailable. Copy file path(s) to \fI/tmp/nnncp$USER\fR.
  258. .Bd -literal
  259. export NNN_NO_X=1
  260. .Ed
  261. .Pp
  262. \fBNNN_QUOTE_ON:\fR wrap copied paths within single quotes. Useful for pasting
  263. names in the shell.
  264. .Pp
  265. \fBNNN_SCRIPT:\fR path to a custom script to run.
  266. .Bd -literal
  267. export NNN_SCRIPT=/usr/local/bin/script.sh
  268. .Ed
  269. \fBNNN_SHOW_HIDDEN:\fR show hidden files.
  270. .Bd -literal
  271. export NNN_SHOW_HIDDEN=1
  272. .Ed
  273. .Sh KNOWN ISSUES
