  119. .Sh CONFIGURATION
  120. .Nm
  121. uses \fIxdg-open\fR (on Linux) and \fIopen(1)\fR (on OS X) as the desktop
  122. opener. It invokes
  123. .Pa nlay
  124. to run desktop search utility or screensaver. Read more on
  125. .Pa nlay
  126. at:
  127. .br
  128. .Em https://github.com/jarun/nnn/wiki/all-about-nlay
  129. .Pp
  130. Configuring
  131. .Nm
  132. to change to the last visited directory on quit requires shell integration in a
  133. few easy steps. Please visit the project page (linked below) for the
  134. instructions.
  135. .Sh FILTERS
  136. Filters support regexes to display only the matched
  137. entries in the current directory view. This effectively allows
  138. searching through the directory tree for a particular entry. Matching entries
  139. are shown instantly (\fIsearch-as-you-type\fR).
  140. .Pp
  141. Filters do not stack on top of each other. They are applied anew
  142. every time. There are 4 ways to reset a filter: \fI^L\fR, an empty filter
  143. expression, a search with no results or an extra backspace at the filter prompt
  144. (like vi).
  145. .Pp
  146. If you want to list all matches starting with the filter expression (a common
  147. use case), start the expression with a
  148. .Pa ^
  149. (caret) symbol.
  150. .Pp
  151. If
  152. .Nm
  153. is invoked as root the default filter will also match hidden files.
  154. .Pp
  155. In the \fInavigate-as-you-type\fR mode directories are opened in filter mode,
  156. allowing continuous navigation. Works best with the \fBarrow keys\fR.
  157. .Sh ENVIRONMENT
  158. The SHELL, EDITOR and PAGER environment variables take precedence
  159. when dealing with the !, e and p commands respectively.
  160. .Pp
  161. \fBNNN_USE_EDITOR:\fR use EDITOR (preferably CLI, fallback vi) to handle text
  162. files.
  163. .Bd -literal
  164. export NNN_USE_EDITOR=1
  165. .Ed
  166. .Pp
  167. \fBNNN_DE_FILE_MANAGER:\fR set to a desktop file manager to open the current
  168. directory with. E.g.:
  169. .Bd -literal
  170. export NNN_DE_FILE_MANAGER=thunar
  171. .Ed
  172. .Pp
  173. \fBNNN_IDLE_TIMEOUT:\fR set idle timeout (in seconds) to invoke terminal
  174. screensaver.
  175. .Pp
  176. \fBNNN_COPIER:\fR set to a clipboard copier script. For example, on Linux:
  177. .Bd -literal
  178. -------------------------------------
  179. #!/bin/sh
  180. echo -n $1 | xsel --clipboard --input
  181. -------------------------------------
  182. .Ed
  183. .Sh KNOWN ISSUES
  184. If you are using urxvt you might have to set backspacekey to DEC.
